MEMBERSHIP INQUIRY

To become a member of Prep Commissary Kitchen, first submit a Membership Inquiry Form below. This step has been proven helpful to both parties to better understand your food processing needs. Be sure to read our Membership FAQS page for answers to commonly asked questions.

Once we’ve reviewed your information, we will reach out to further discuss your food process and rental needs. If you are accepted, the following items will be required before you are able to reserve time in the kitchen.

These are the items you must complete, in this specific order, to start become a member at Prep Kitchen.
  • Legal Business Name. Select your business name and organize your legal structure/business entity (sole prop, LLC, Corporation, etc.) with the California Secretary of State (SOS) prior to applying for your Health Department permit and establishing a new business.
  • State ID. A valid State Driver’s License or State ID.
  • Food Safety Manager Certificate. A Food Safety Manager Certificate is required for the Primary Member, and a Food Handlers Certificate is required for each additional user affiliated with your business. We recommend obtaining certifications through ServSafe.
  • Liability Insurance. Proof of Liability Insurance with Prep Commissary Kitchen, LLC named as additional insured. Liability insurance needs to meet minimum limits of $1,000,000 each occurrence, $2,000,000 general aggregate. Insurance must be maintained for the duration of any kitchen use.   • Signed Contract With Prep Kitchen. Once you have a signed contract with Prep and have paid your Security Deposit, our Prep Manager will sign your County Commissary Verification Form and you can begin food production in our kitchen.
  • Security Deposit. Each member must furnish a $500 security deposit before scheduling time in the kitchen. Deposit to be refunded upon termination of contract, barring any outstanding invoices or damage to Prep Kitchen or it's contents.
  • County Food Operator Permit. Submit the appropriate food operator application to the county for the permit best suited for your business.
  • County Commissary Agreement. Upon receipt of the above documents, our Prep Manager will sign your Nevada County Commissary Agreement and email a copy to Nevada County Department of Environmental Health. You will be CC'd on this email. In our excperience, straight forward food permit applications are usually issued within two weeks.
  • Orientation. In-person orientation at the kitchen to familiarize your team with Prep’s policies, cleaning supplies, entry & exit procedures, select your keyless entry code, etc.
